Buffalo Plains Wind Farm is a project located west of Lomond, Alberta in Vulcan County consisting of 83 wind turbine generators that will generate enough to supply a city of more than 100,000 homes with clean energy.

Interesting facts

Stats:

  • 300 workers on the project
  • 83 wind turbines built over a period of 17 months
  • Over 50,000 m3 of concrete will be poured
  • 213 km of collector system will be installed

Unique challenge:

  • It is a very large site with several environmental constraints. In addition, the delivery and installation of the wind turbines was during the winter.
Projet Sharp Hills

Sharp Hills Wind

The Sharp Hills Wind Project is in Special Area 3 and 4 near the hamlets of Sedalia and New Brigden, in Alberta. The project area is primarily used for grain farming and cattle grazing, which consists mainly of flat plains and rolling hills. Sharp Hills Wind Farm has a mixed layout utilizin g 67 Vestas V150 turbines rated at 4.3 MW and 4.5 MW and has an installed capacity of 300MW. Sharp Hills’ generation is equivalent to the consumption of more than 160,000 Alberta homes.

The Michichi Photovoltaic Plant is a 25 MWac solar facility built in Kneehill County, Alberta, just north of Drumheller, connected to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System at 802S Michichi Creek substation. Every year, Michichi Solar project will generate enough emissions-free energy for more than 6,000 Alberta homes and offset approximately 30,000 metric tonnes of CO2.

Kneehill Solar

The Kneehill Photovoltaic Plant is a 25 MWac solar facility built in Kneehill County, Alberta, just north of the Town of Three Hills, connected to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System at 770S Three Hills substation. Every year, Kneehill Solar project will generate enough electricity to power more than 6,000 average Alberta homes and offset approximately 30,000 metric tonnes of CO2.

Projet Hand Hills

Hand Hills

The Hand Hills Wind Project is located on private land in the Municipal Districts of Starland County and Special Areas No. 2, approximately 6 km Southeast of the Village of Delia, and approximately 28 km Northeast of Drumheller, AB. The Project includes 29 Siemens Gamesa SG 5.0-145 wind turbine generators (“WTGs”) with a 95.5m hub height to achieve a total nameplate capacity of up to 145MW. BluEarth Renewables is the developer, owner and operator of the Hand Hills Wind Project.

The Empress Solar Project is in Cypress County, in Alberta, approximately 30km south of the Village of Empress on approximately 284 acres of privately owned land. The Power plant shall consist of ground mounted, solar PV Modules, with a total generating capacity of 38.5 MWac and 48.13 M Wdc.
